Reposted from the Roseville Police Department:
Today we honor the 5-year anniversary of Roseville Police Officer Cameron “Cam” Landon’s passing.
The Roseville Police Department welcomed Cameron in 2015, where he became a beloved officer and member of our SWAT Team.
Cameron bravely served our country in the United States Marine Corps from 2005 to 2009, completing a tour in Iraq. He returned home to Grass Valley and began his law enforcement career as a Corrections Officer with the Nevada County Sheriff’s Department before becoming an Officer with the Grass Valley Police Department in 2013.
We continue to honor his service and passing on July 16, 2019. Officer Landon was 36 years old at the time of his passing and left behind his wife Angela, and sons Wyatt, Weston, and Walker. Angela and her sons came by the RPD today, getting to go inside the SWAT vehicle for the team Cameron proudly served on.
Throughout the day today, our officers are doing a special workout in honor of Cameron, with officers from every shift doing 3 rounds in honor of his 3 sons.
Cameron will forever be missed, and never be forgotten.

On this day in 1965, Deputy Arden Webster was tragically killed in the line of duty during an early morning traffic stop. Deputy Webster had made a traffic stop on Interstate 80 in Roseville when he was struck and killed by a pick-up truck.
Webster and his partner, Deputy Bud Murray, had been dispatched to the area after Sergeant Don Nunes and Roseville police officers stopped a taxicab they believed was associated with an armed robbery in Reno. When they determined it was not involved, they returned to their cars and Webster was hit by the truck being driven by a local Penryn man.
Webster was Auburn’s first official police officer in the 1930’s and served with the Lincoln Police Department. Webster had lived on Joeger Road in Auburn. He was survived by his wife, three sons, and two daughters and was buried in the New Auburn Cemetery. He was 58 years old.
We will never forget his sacrifice. 🕯

On this day in 1978, Deputy James Machado was shot and killed with his own service weapon during a struggle with an escaped mental patient in Auburn.
With the help of citizens who witnessed the shooting, officers from California Highway Patrol and the Auburn Police Department quickly located the suspect near Interstate 80 and Highway 49. When the suspect confronted the officers with Deputy Machado’s service weapon, the officers fired several shotgun rounds at the suspect. The suspect was killed. Law enforcement officers from throughout the state attended the funeral of Deputy Machado.
In 2008, Deputy Machado was posthumously awarded the Placer County Sheriff’s Purple Heart award.
James had served the Sheriff’s Office for 4 years. He was survived by his wife, Nancy, and three young children; Jim, 7; Joy, 3; and Jeanne, 1.

***K9 Deployed and Suspect Apprehended***
Statistics and record keeping demonstrate that law enforcement K9’s are more often used as locating and deescalation based tools in modern policing practices.
On this call from late May a suspect violently assaulted a Placer County citizen and refused to surrender to law enforcement by hiding in a residence. The use of a K9 allowed law enforcement personnel to successfully locate the suspect who had concealed himself inside a closet and a few additional barks from Ronin convinced him to surrender peacefully.
The utilization of law enforcement K9’s is extremely beneficial to increasing the safety of the involved officers and exponentially increase the chances of suspect being located and apprehended before doing more harm to the surrounding community.
